10 Positive Thought Strategies

In my previous write up you read about self-image. Today we are going to know about certain strategies which can help you in building positive self -image. Lets get started..

Avoid exaggerations

Correct your internal voice when it exaggerates , especially when it exaggerates the negatives. Try to avoid thinking in extreme terms.

Nip negative thoughts in the bud

Sometimes putting a stop on negative thinking is as easy as that. The next time you start giving yourself an internal browbeating, tell yourself to “stop it” If you saw a person yelling, insult at another person, you would probably tell them to stop. Why do you accept that behaviour from yourself.

Accentuate the positive

Instead of focusing on what you think are your negative qualities, accentuate your strengths and assets.

Accept flaws and being human

Maybe you did get nervous and blow that presentation at work – so what? All people have flaws and make mistakes, accept it and go on with your life.

Don’t bully yourself!

“Should have, could have, would have….”Try not to constantly second guess yourself, criticize yourself for what you should have done better, or expect too much from yourself. Don’t put standard for yourself that you wouldn’t expect from others. Its great to want to do well, but expecting yourself to be perfect and then punishing yourself when you fail is a vicious cycle.

Replace criticism with encouragement

Give constructive criticism instead of being critical. Compliment yourself and those around you on what you have achieved.

Don’t feel guilty about things beyond your control

You are not to blame everytime somethings goes wrong or someone has a problem. Apologizing for things and accepting blame can be a positive quality, if you are in the wrong and if you learn and move on. But you shouldn’t feel responsible for all problems or assume you are to blame whenever someone is upset.

Give yourself a break

You don’t need to be all things to all people or please everyone. Give yourself permission to decide you are doing the best you can. Remind yourself when you are doing things well – don’t wait to hear it from someone else.

Forgive and forget

Try not to hang on to painful memories and bad feelings – this is surefire way to encourage negative thoughts and bad moods. Your past can control you if you don’t control it. If you have hard time forgiving or forgetting, consider talking through your emotions with a good friend or counselor, but try not to dwell. It is important to work through things, but you can’t let the past determine your future.

Positive Affirmation

Your happy thoughts can actually become your reality. I am the best, I love myself, I am worthy, I am proud of myself, I love myself and my body, I am free of worry and regret and few of the positive affirmation which can bring positivity in your lives and keep you going.

Reminding yourself of your positive qualities and practicing your responses to the different situations are the fastest ways to improve and maintain a positive self -image.

  1. Such a positive post with lots of learning. I agree so many times we blame overselves so much when things didn’t happen as we plan. We need to understand that everything is not under our control. Keep trying with positive attitude is thing that matters most in life.

  2. Living a happy life is not that tough. Not comparing ourselves with others, accepting the reality, learning the act of forgiveness and surrounding ourselves with positive people can go a long way.

  3. Constructive criticism plays important role in nurturing self esteem. People nowadays judge or demoralise more instead of encouraging.

  4. Very positive thoughts, I totally agree. Sometimes we do lots of expectations from ourselves and sometimes measure undervalued. Forgive and forget is the best and the difficult one to practice.
